Players Guides for The Untrodden Ways

Willis, Michigan — Melriks Design, Inc., is pleased to introduce our first foray into table top role playing with a set of three players guides for The Untrodden Ways. Based on the Ironsworn Game Engine, these publications reframe the game so that it can be used in an urban fantasy setting.

Our goal with The Untrodden Ways’ Players Guide, World Guide, and Characters Guide was to reorganize the SRD into three focused publications gathering information from different parts of the SRD, editing it, and enhancing it with material for our setting.

Players Guide: If you don’t know how to play using the Ironsworn Game Engine, this publication explains all the game mechanics. It contains everything you need to learn how moves, rolls, and oracles work. The group play section consolidates all the rules for playing co-operatively or with a Gamemaster.

Characters Guide: Creating characters is the most important part of playing a campaign set on the Untrodden Ways. The base set-up of your characters is similar to Ironsworn. Our intent was to make sure you could adventure in either ‘universe’. We’ve included modified character set-up instructions for non-human characters and magic users. Our character set-up oracles give you the main ingredients needed to make a modern character.

Magic plays an important part of The Untrodden Ways. The Characters Guide explains our method to integrate it into your character. Plus we have sample characters and monsters for you to use or model your own characters after.

The World Guide: In it, we set the truths for the Untrodden Ways. We outline the cosmic pantheon of NPCs that will influence your character’s actions. The World Guide also includes four sample locations with specialized oracles for each city. Roll against the oracles to learn four critical scene elements, and let your imagination weave them into the fiction.

Lastly, there’s the free Asset Cards deck that will help build out your character. We’ve added more cards to the already large deck SRD deck. In addition, we modified some of the cards to fit the setting of the Untrodden Ways.

“We started by creating adventure modules set on the Untrodden Ways, but it was odd referencing the original Ironsworn or Ironsworn-Starforged rule books. The Untrodden Ways is generally lighter in tone and set in modern times. Text referencing ‘Vikings’ and ‘Spacemen’ pulled us out of gameplay so we took the amazing Ironsworn SRD and adapted it to the Untrodden Ways,” said Rik, owner, Melriks Design, Inc., publisher of The Untrodden Ways.
